NEW BEGINNINGS: AFTER THE STORM
In the aftermath of flood damage caused by Storm Eleanor, the award-winning Porthminster Gallery in St Ives re-opens its (new) doors to launch its 2018 season of selling shows with 'New Beginnings: After The Storm'.
The exhibition will showcase a diverse selection of original contemporary artworks by six artists new to the gallery, working at the leading edge of ceramics, glass and mixed-media. Most are showing for the first time in St Ives and Cornwall.
Recent Falmouth graduate Rosie Smith was selected for her delicately drawn muted landscapes, which will complement the painterly, abstract paintings by Cheltenham based artist Camilla Ward, and the charming, nostalgic beach-combed mixed media sculptures of Kirsty Elson. Ceramics by the award-winning Edinburgh based ceramicist Lara Scobie, will be a counterpoint to the prizewinning kiln-fused glass sculptures of Surrey based artist Lisa Pettibone.
Former cage fighter and kick boxer turned celebrity potter Nam Tran was one of the contestants in last year’s BBC TV series, The Great Pottery Throw Down, and the gallery is pleased to be revealing his latest wheel-thrown raku creations to a new audience here in St Ives.
Prices of the artworks in show range from £90 to £2,000, and the Own Art interest-free purchase plan is available on all works.

NEW BEGINNINGS: AFTER THE STORM
In the aftermath of flood damage caused by Storm Eleanor, the award-winning and well-established Porthminster Gallery in St Ives will re-open its (new) doors to launch its 2018 season of expertly curated shows with 'New Beginnings: After The Storm'.
This selling exhibition will open on Saturday 10th February to showcase a diverse selection of original contemporary artworks by six artists new to the gallery, working at the leading edge of ceramics, glass and mixed-media. Most are showing for the first time in St Ives and Cornwall.

The Curator’s Perspective:
David Durham, gallery owner and curator, said, “Following a rather rocky start to the new year with Storm Eleanor causing damage and flooding to the gallery early in January, it's such a relief that the opening show of our 2018 season of exhibitions will go ahead on schedule. It's also a cool coincidence that the pre-arranged title, 'New Beginnings' is so apt in light of what we’ve been through and moving forward.”
Prices of the artworks in show range from £50 to £1,500, and the Own Art interest-free purchase plan is available on all works.
Running alongside the exhibition will be collectible Modern St Ives and British Art by Trevor Bell, Sandra Blow, Terry Frost, Barbara Hepworth, Henry Moore, Peter Lanyon, Ben Nicholson, Victor Pasmore, Bryan Pearce and other 20th century modern masters.
Notes to editors
In 2017 the award-winning Porthminster Gallery celebrated its tenth year in St Ives, Cornwall with a diverse programme of expertly curated exhibitions and events.
Established by art patrons and gallery directors Dee Bray and David Durham in York in 1999, the business was relocated to St Ives in 2007 to concentrate its focus on the art of St Ives and Cornwall. Since then the gallery has championed the work of more than 80 living British artists through its progressive and expertly curated shows, and has showcased and introduced many young up-and-coming artists to an appreciative local and global collectorship. The gallery has also gained a strong reputation during the ten years for its impressive shows and changing stock of Post War St Ives and British Art.
Porthminster Gallery won the Cornwall Today readers’ award for ‘Best Art Gallery in Cornwall’ 2014/15, and has been featured in BBC2’s Coast series and most recently in Sky Art’s Tate Walks series.
The gallery offers buyers and collectors the easy and affordable incentive to buy original art up to £25,000 at 0% APR over 10 equal 0% APR monthly instalments with the Own Art and Own Art Plus purchase schemes.
