Tea Bowl by Simon Carroll
'Tea Bowls', 'Chawans', 'Yunomis', 'Sake Cups' – there's something warming and comforting just in the names alone. Then there is the clay itself, and the hand of the maker: the alchemy of mixing earth, water, fire, and air to conjure into being warm, tactile objects with rich organic textures and natural glazes.
In our austere digital age of shiny phone screens and technology, we need more than ever to feel and embrace the 'handmade', the 'imperfect', and the 'tactile' – and tea bowls and vessels can bring these 'touchy-feely' elements into our lives and homes.
A show spotlight on handmade fired clay drinking vessels – 'Tea Bowls', 'Chawans', 'Yunomis', and 'Sake Cups' – by British and International studio potters.
