The Porthminster Gallery presents Ben Nicholson | Greek and Turkish Forms, a selling show of framed rare, signed etchings from Nicholson’s 1967–68 suite.
Based on drawings of Aegean motifs and architecture made on holiday cruising the Greek islands and Turkish coast in 1967, Nicholson’s subtly toned, playful, and expressive linear etchings are a sophisticated example of the artist’s unique take on the world around him.
Each of these exceptional etchings is framed to museum standards in a handmade black-stained tulipwood frame and glazed with Artglass UV99 to prevent artwork fading.
The show is complemented by Patrick Haughton | Earth Song – a supporting show of new and recent paintings and painted carved reliefs, inspired by the ancient landscapes of West Cornwall. Born in 1942, Haughton became fascinated by the “abstract” approach to still life and landscape and was influenced by Nicholson's drawings, etchings, and relief constructions.
